Sound and Video Cards

Sound and Video cards are essential for the computer to be capable of Multimedia. There are also other items that are not essential to, yet assist the running of the presentations, internet, and other media movies. Other factors which will influence the speed and quality of multimedia presentations are the amount of RAM available and the speed of the central processor.

RAM- Random Access Memory is a type of data stirage used in computers (main memory). It takes the form of integrated circuits that allow the stored data to be accessed in any order- that is, at random and without the physical movement of the storage medium or a physical reading head.

CPU

The CPU is made up of three major components the ALU (arithmeticl logic unit) the Control unit and the Registers which stores the commands for the ALU.

  • ALU- The ALU performs all necessary arithemetic functions, such as add and subtract, logical functions, like AND, OR and shifting operations.
  • Registers- The CPU’s Registers are used tp stpre temporary results and control information.
  • Control Unit- This fetches instructions from main memory and determines their type.

Centralised Processing
Centralised processing is performed in one or a cluster of coupled computers in a single locations; In modern times, centralised processing is used in most full featured desktop computers. Problems with cetralised processing is that it is slower then parallel processing, and multi tasking is hard for the processor.

Distributed Processing

Distributed processing refers to LAN designed so that a single program can run simultaneously at various sites. Most distributed processing systems contain sophisticated software that detects idle CPUs on the network and parcels out programs to utilise them.

Parallel Processing
Parallel processing is the use of more than one CPU to execute a program. Ideally, This makes the program run faster, however in practices it is often difficult to divide a program in such a way that seperate
